M.Sc. Thesis Abstract
Digital medical image datasets are very large with Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT)
accounting for a large proportion of the produced data.
Medical image sequences like MRI contain interframe
correlation as well as intraframe correlation. In principle,
schemes like 3D-SPIHT which utilizes both interframe and
intraframe correlation are expected to perform better in
compression than those based on only intraframe correlation.
The performance of 3D-SPIHT is varied by the condition of
wavelet filter bank, decomposition structure, boundary
extension, and etc. The contribution of this study is in
finding the efficacy condition of 3D-SPIHT on medical image
sequences.
